SILVER DAVIN has been playing with yarn and thread ever since she was a young child. When her grandmother realized she loved crafting, she encouraged Silver, taught her how to use a sewing machine and bought her embroidery kits. Some of Silver’s happiest memories are of sitting with Grandmother as they crocheted rag rugs, sewed yoyos, and cut quilt squares.
When she was in college, Silver picked up crochet in earnest and began to crave nicer and nicer yarns. She learned to spin her own yarn, and this led to an ever-expanding passion for all aspects of fiber arts. Her specialties are crazy art yarns, memorial items made from a beloved pet’s fur, and crocheted garments made of fun and funky magic yarn.
GRANNY SQUARES THROUGH THE AGES — Advanced Beginner to Advanced
The Granny Square is an iconic staple that every crocheter recognizes, but have you ever heard its interesting history? From its inspiration as a quilt square look-alike to its prevalence in 60s and 70s home decor to its place in runway fashion today, the GrannySquare has an interesting place in fiber arts history!
In this class we will discuss this quintessentially American crochet square and its place in our history while creating two different squares: one using the first description of the square ever published and one using a modern pattern.
