Diane Frankenfield lives in Belews Creek, NC. She learned to weave baskets in 1992, starting with the egg basket. Next was the woven bottom, then onto wooden bases. When She is not weaving, Diane can be found working on beaded projects or quilting. Diane is an experienced teache; she has taught quilting for 22 years and basket making for 14 years.
MAKING A MARKET BASKET Beginner to Advanced
A market basket is a great first-time project, but it is also a fun project for those who have some experience in basket making. The market basket is a very handy basket to have. The basket has a woven bottom with the use of filler to keep the basket from having larger openings. The students will learn how to weave a woven base with filler spokes. Traditional over - under weaving, fitting the rim correctly, and double lashing. Come learn to weave a beautiful and useful basket—perfect for taking to the Farmers’ Market, transporting your fiber projects,
Size of basket: 14 ½” long X 9 ½” wide X 5 ½” tall without the handle—12” with the handle.

Pre-class homework: None
Students bring: Basket materials will be supplied, but students should bring an apron, an old towel, water bucket, spray bottle for water, clips or clothes pins, scissors and tape measure. Students may bring their own basketry tools if they have them.
Class fee: $60.00
Materials fee: $15.00 for weaving kit, additional kits are $25.00
