TRANSFERRING STITCHING PATTERNS: EXPLORING TECHNIQUES & LEGAL ISSUES Beginner to Advanced
In this participatory, hands on class, experienced hand stitchers will first examine the legal issues in transferring other’s patterns (embroidery, Sashiko, crewel) to their own works. They will then explore multiple ways of performing the transfer (light table tracing, stencil, soluble adhesive transfers, and grid drawing with ruler and disappearing marker. Participants will take home at least 4 designs on fabric ready to be stitched.
Sashiko stitchers will also gain knowledge of stitching-directions for two popular Moyozashi patterns.
Prerequisite skills:
Non-Sashiko stitchers need familiarity with:
Basic embroidery stitches (Running, Back, Chain, French knot, Satin)
Embroidery fabric weaves
Embroidery thread types
Sashiko stitchers need basic familiarity with:
Types of Sashiko threads and fabrics
Styles of Sashiko patterns (Hitomezashi and Moyozashi)
Unshin-style running stitch Completion of morning Intro Sashiko class or equivalent is recommended
